Deciding which projects to spend my free time on got a little easier today. I just found out, five months late, that Google has a new product that obviates and improves on a project I'd been working on:

On September 20, 2009, I checked in the first change for a project I called "Offsites"
Three days later, Google announced "Sidewiki"
Five months later (today), I found out about Sidewiki

To be honest, the last real work I did on Offsites was in November, but I was still excited a

New Feature: Titles

You can now title an item. Just put the entire first line of the item in bold, and leave a blank line after it. On the website, it will be rendered about the same, but the title will get used when posting the item to Facebook and as the title when the item shows up in a feed. I've updated the Item Formatting item.

A couple weeks ago, I was listening to "Feed The Animals" by Girl Talk (a "mashup" artist), and the names of some of the samples were right at the tip of my tongue, but I couldn't quite get them. What I really wanted was a music player that would show which samples were playing, so I put together http://feedtheanimalssamples.com. I gave myself a week to do it, and amazingly, I almost made that deadline, mostly because a bunch of things really came together nicely that I wasn't expecting. For example:

- I don't know the first thing about cre

Thinking about using Facebook Connect on your site? Great! Step one: Abandon your will to live.

I kid! You'll get monthly conjugal visits with your will to live. And by "will to live", I'm including faith in humanity, sense of self worth, satisfaction at a job well done, etc.

First, everyone, please give me a moment alone with Facebook Connect:

Facebook Connect, I know you're reading this, and we need to talk. It'll only take a second. It's just you and me here, ok? Just us boys. Tell me what's going on. You don't complete your documentation, your code i

PicDoodle: A simple Facebook virus

Probably not the first of its kind, but it sure is annoying. It works like this:

1. When you add the application, it requests permission to see your profile, but then it requests the "photo_upload" extended permission (the dialog requests permission to "Allow Photo Uploads from PicDoodle").
2. Once you grant it that permission, it silently uploads a small photo (for me it was a 16x16 white image, but for some people, it seems to upload a differe

If you ever really want to take advantage of the Flash runtime then I would recommend the haXe compiler. It's actually a pretty nice language (not ''quite'' AS3 but close enough). I have some stuff from here.
