New Feature: Titles

You can now title an item. Just put the entire first line of the item in bold, and leave a blank line after it. On the website, it will be rendered about the same, but the title will get used when posting the item to Facebook and as the title when the item shows up in a feed. I've updated the Item Formatting item.

New Stuff: Bookmarklet, "Responses to your items" Feed, "Disable Facebook" Feature

A few new features today:

First, a bookmarklet! It lets you post any link to Mush Pot really easily, and doesn't even take you away from the page you're on. You can find it here.

Next, I've added a new feed: the "Responses to items by a user" feed. I think this will be really useful, since it lets you keep track of responses to your posts. To get the link, click your username at the top-right of the screen to go to your user page, then get

New Feature: Share on Facebook

Just added a "<post to facebook>" link under every item (you have to be logged in through Facebook to see it). Clicking the link pops up a dialog to let you send that item to a friend or post it on your wall.

This feature was suggested by 'wreel'. Thanks!

Change: Publishing Facebook Feed Items

I've changed how you publish feed items to your Facebook profile. Instead of being prompted to publish an excerpt right after you submit an item, there is now a link under each of your items (assuming your account is connected to Facebook) to let you publish it. That way, now you have a chance to proofread the content first.

New Feature: Permapages for Tags

You can now click the tags that appear under each item, which takes you to a page of all the items carrying that tag. From that page, you can also get an Atom feed of any further items with that tag.

Not a huge feature, but something that I think's been missing.

New Feature: Facebook Login

So that you have one less account to deal with, Mush Pot now supports login through Facebook using Facebook Connect! It's easy:

If you don't already have a Mush Pot account: click the "<login with Facebook>" link, and you'll be asked to enter your Facebook username and password. (We don't ever see this information — it's transmitted directly and securely to Facebook.) After you've logged into Facebook, a Mush Pot account will be automatically created for you and linked to your Facebook account, and you'll be prompted to select a Mush Pot u

Mush Pot now provides Atom feeds!

For a feed of items by a particular user:

Item Formatting

Some markup is available for formatting item content. Parts of it are based on the syntax used for Wikipedia articles, although it's much more limited.

Links: To create a link, use square brackets enclosing the url, a space, then the link text:

[http://my/url link text] ---> link text

Bold: For bold text, surround the text with three single quotes:

  '''bold text''' ---> bold text

Titles: If you put the first line of an item in bold and leave

About Mush Pot

Welcome! Glad you could make it.

Mush Pot is dirt-simple: you can submit and vote on content, and the most popular content appears on your front page. If you've used other voting/"social news" websites, then you know the concept, but there are lots of differences between them and Mush Pot.

This site is still very much a work in progress, and I'm interested in your opinions/bug reports/etc. If you have something to say, please respond to this item and I'll see it.
